With regard to advantages,
no one can deny that integrating technology into classroom has enabled teachers
with abilities and techniques that aren’t available in the traditional
teaching. To explain, with the prevalence of technology, teachers have become
able to teach better and easier. Computers and iPads, for instance, have
hundreds if not thousands of programs and applications that strengthen and
enhance students’ mastering
of new skills in a very short period of time. In addition to that, using
computers and iPads in learning can increase students’ interests and
willingness towards successful education. Moreover, integrating technology has
enabled teachers to vary their teaching techniques in order to make their
students achieve better learning outcomes. In English, for instance, students
can improve their linguistic abilities by having access to computer programs
whether online or offline. Thousands of English applications are now used by
educators and learners achieve better learning.
On the other hand, integrating
technology has caused some disadvantages, or drawbacks. One main disadvantage
is that many students have become addicted to technology and unwilling to use
books anymore. Many students have begun to think that books are useless and the
only source of knowledge is technology tools, so they deserted books. Another
main disadvantage of using technology in classrooms is that most technology
tools such as IPads and computers are costly and only few people can afford to
purchase them. One last disadvantage is that technology consumes time. Teachers
spend much in managing and motivating students to focus while using technology
tools. Many students think that technology was found for fun and not for
learning. Thus, teachers sometimes suffer to incorporate technology
successfully in the learning environment.
In conclusion, I think integrating
technology is one of the pioneering ideas in education regardless of some
disadvantages that might appear. Like most things in our life, technology could
have drawbacks, but I believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
